The conversation started this week regarding newly released information about Government Home Improvement Energy Rebates. In January 2017 when the Carbon Levy was introduced, we were told that furnaces are not on the slate for energy rebates at all, for residential properties. It was suggested, that perhaps down the road for not-for profit companies, they could apply for residential furnaces.
This week it was announced that insulation, windows, and tank-less water heaters are qualifying for energy rebates. The criteria at this point are (more restrictions will come):
1) Invoices must be dated after April 28, 2017
2) The heater must be installed by a “pre-qualified government approved rebate contractor,”
There is an “up to” $1000.00 rebate for the supplied and installed tank-less water heater, depending on what you are switching FROM and TO. Previously for many families, the on-set cost for tank-less water heaters made it hard to justify the trade off of the severe increase in energy efficiency. We think that this is a pretty cool initiative!
