The "my AC unit is dead, I need a new one" conversation is usually tilted towards the vendor knows the industry inside and out, and consumer knows very little. Luc on the education, "here's your options side" to Stephanie and Mason on the installation side, were top drawer. Acclaimed is business where phone calls/texts/emails are responded to very timely and professionally. No worries recommending them every day.

Very exceptional customer service and prompt repair.
Woke up to a house at 13 celsius. Called them and within a few hours they had responded, sent a technician and resolved the issue.
Not the first time I’ve used them and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again

I would highly recommend this company. Luc came to our house and gave us an estimate. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He was never pushy and really took his time to go through everything with us.

The guys that did the installation were the best. Justin was so accommodating and really took his time with the install. We had a furnace, air conditioner and hot water tank all replaced and they did a phenomenal job. These guys know what they’re doing.

It’s pretty obvious by all the great reviews that this company really cares about customer service and making sure things are done right.

I had my furnace replaced last August and added an air conditioner. I had several quotes and I chose Acclaimed as they are a family run business and their service is excellent with very friendly staff. Luc was my salesman. I was impressed on his thoroughness in explaining everything and his patience with dealing with someone who knew nothing about furnaces and air conditioners.
Ed came out today to check the thermostat and air flow of the furnace and did some adjustments which I am very satisfied with. I was very impressed with his service . They are quick to respond to any service or questions.
I would highly recommend Acclaimed!

We just had Acclaimed! move our furnace vent and do maintenance + cleaning on our 2 furnaces. Overall the experience was great, excellent communication from the company and employees throughout the process, and really friendly workers who were knowledgeable and helpful. I love that they text you when the employee is arriving rather than have us just wait around wondering like so many other service companies. It's a great system. They are coming back to mount the vent on the outside of the house sometime in the next week and I'm sure they will follow through with it. Our cat freaked out and bolted outside while they were cleaning, they warned us to keep an eye on the animals and we did try, but she escaped. For a brief period we were worried she got sucked up by the vacuum, we got in touch with them and they seemed genuinely concerned about our cat. Fortunately, like they said, she showed up a couple hours later as she was hiding. Keep the critters in check while they clean! Overall highly recommend this company!

Why Your Edmonton Home Deserves a Reliable HVAC System

Living in Edmonton means your HVAC system works harder than almost anywhere else in Canada. With winter temperatures plunging to -30°C and summer days spiking above 30°C, your furnace and air conditioner are essentials. The good news is that many common problems have simple solutions.

HVAC troubleshooting edmonton ab doesn’t have to be complicated. Before calling a professional, try these quick checks:

  • Check your thermostat: Verify it’s set to the right mode (heat/cool) and temperature.
  • Inspect the circuit breaker: Look for tripped breakers and reset if needed.
  • Replace your air filter: A clogged filter is the #1 cause of HVAC problems.
  • Check the power switch: Ensure your furnace or AC unit is turned on.
  • Clear the outdoor unit: Remove debris, leaves, or snow blocking your AC condenser.

If these steps don’t work, it’s time to call a technician. However, simple maintenance can prevent many issues. For example, a clogged air filter is the most common cause of system failure, yet it takes just five minutes to replace.

Sometimes, professional assurance is what you need. As one Edmonton customer noted after a checkup: “Booking an appointment for a furnace checkup was a very quick and simple phone call… The technician was on time, knowledgeable, and professional, confirming their 10-year-old furnace was in good working order.” This guide will help you know when to DIY and when to call an expert.

First-Step HVAC Troubleshooting: What to Check Before You Call

When your furnace or AC fails, don’t panic. Many HVAC problems have simple solutions you can handle in minutes without special tools. Before calling a technician, run through these basic checks.

Person checking a smart thermostat - hvac troubleshooting edmonton ab

  • Thermostat: Is it set to cool or heat? Is the target temperature correct? Check the fan setting—AUTO is usually best. If the screen is blank, try replacing the batteries.
  • Circuit Breaker: Go to your electrical panel and look for a tripped breaker for your furnace or AC. Flip it off, then on again. If it trips again immediately, call a professional.
  • Air Filter: This is the most common culprit for hvac troubleshooting edmonton ab calls. A clogged filter restricts airflow, forcing your system to work harder and potentially overheat. Check it monthly and replace it every 1-3 months. Find the right one with our more info about furnace filters guide.
  • Power Switch: Your furnace has a power switch, often resembling a light switch on or near the unit. Make sure it hasn’t been accidentally turned off.

Furnace Not Working? Check These Things First

On a cold Edmonton night, no heat is an emergency. After performing the checks above (thermostat, breaker, filter, power switch), try these furnace-specific steps:

  • Pilot Light: If you have an older gas furnace, check if the pilot light is out. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to relight it safely. If it won’t stay lit, you need professional service.

If you still have no heat, it’s time to call for Furnace Repair Edmonton services.

Air Conditioner Not Cooling? Start Here

When an Edmonton summer day gets hot, a broken AC is miserable. After checking the thermostat and air filter, look at these AC-specific items:

  • Outdoor Unit: The large metal box outside (condenser) needs to breathe. Clear away any leaves, grass, or debris. Ensure there’s at least two feet of clear space around it.
  • Ice Buildup: If you see ice on the outdoor unit or refrigerant lines, turn the AC off immediately to let it thaw. Ice indicates an airflow problem (like a dirty filter) or low refrigerant. If it ices up again after restarting, call for help to avoid damaging the compressor.

If your AC is still blowing warm air, we’re here to help with AC Repair Edmonton AB services.

Common HVAC Problems & Solutions in Edmonton

Even well-cared-for systems have issues. Understanding common problems helps you know whether it’s a quick fix or time to call us.

  • Poor Airflow: If air from vents is weak, check for a dirty filter first. Then, ensure furniture or curtains aren’t blocking registers and that all vent dampers are open.
  • Inconsistent Temperatures: Some rooms being hot while others are cold can point to leaky ducts, an improperly sized system, or a thermostat issue.
  • Rising Energy Bills: If your bills are climbing, your system may be losing efficiency due to age or dirty components. Regular maintenance helps, but systems over 15 years old are naturally less efficient.
  • Water Leaks: For an AC, a water leak usually means a clogged condensate drain line. High-efficiency furnaces also produce condensation and can have similar drain issues.
  • Frequent Cycling: If your system turns on and off constantly (short cycling), it could be caused by a dirty filter, a faulty thermostat, or an oversized system. This puts major stress on components.

Furnace Noises and Smells

Unusual sounds and odors are your furnace’s way of signaling a problem.

  • Noises: Banging or rattling often means a loose panel or internal component. Squealing typically points to a worn fan belt or motor bearings. Learn more about what different furnace sounds mean.
  • Smells: A brief burning smell when you first turn on the heat is normal (dust burning off). If it persists, it could be an electrical issue. A rotten egg smell indicates a gas leak—an emergency. Evacuate immediately and call your gas provider from outside. Musty odors suggest mold growth in the system. Our guide can help you Troubleshoot Common Furnace Smells.

Common Air Conditioner Issues

Here are the most frequent AC problems we see in Edmonton.

  • Blowing Warm Air: After checking the thermostat, this could be low refrigerant (indicating a leak), a dirty filter, or a compressor problem. Our post on When Your AC is Blowing Warm Air has more details.
  • Water Leaks: This is almost always a clogged condensate drain line. We explain How to Address Water Leak From AC.
  • Frozen Coils: Ice on your AC unit is caused by poor airflow (dirty filter) or low refrigerant. Turn the system off to thaw completely before calling for service.
  • AC Won’t Turn Off: This could be a faulty thermostat or a mechanical issue. It wastes energy and strains your system. Also, watch for Warning Signs AC Compressor is Failing.

Repair vs. Replace: Making the Right Decision

When your system breaks down, you face a tough choice: repair or replace? It’s a significant decision, and several factors can help guide you.

Infographic comparing factors for repairing vs. replacing an HVAC system, including age of unit, repair cost vs. replacement cost, energy efficiency, and frequency of breakdowns. - hvac troubleshooting edmonton ab infographic

  • Age of Your System: Furnaces typically last 15-20 years, and air conditioners 10-15 years. If your unit is approaching or past this range, replacement becomes a more logical option.
  • The “50% Rule”: If a repair costs 50% or more than the price of a new system, replacement is usually the better long-term investment. Major repairs like a new compressor or heat exchanger often fall into this category.
  • Energy Efficiency: Older systems are far less efficient than modern ones. A new high-efficiency unit costs more upfront but can lead to significant savings on your monthly energy bills.
  • Frequency of Breakdowns: If you’re constantly calling for repairs, those costs add up. Frequent breakdowns signal that the system is nearing the end of its life.

Our team provides an honest assessment to help you weigh your options. We’re not here to push a sale but to help you make the best choice for your home and budget. If replacement is the right path, we can guide you through HVAC Replacement Edmonton AB options and offer HVAC Financing Edmonton AB to make it manageable.

Professional maintenance delivers key benefits:

  • Improved Efficiency & Lower Energy Bills: A clean, well-tuned system uses less energy, saving you money every month.
